Handling & Installation

Technical Standard Operating Procedure

Insulated Sandwich Panel Engineering & Site Handling Manual

Proper transport, site storage, structural verification, and precise fixing are vital to achieving designed thermal insulation values, weather-tightness, and fire rating standards for PIR, PU, and Rockwool sandwich panels. Paneltech International LLC provides strict technical protocols engineered to prevent surface coating damage, joint misalignment, or structural degradation during construction.

Whether installing insulated roof panels or architectural wall cladding systems, following these step-by-step field guidelines ensures warranty compliance and optimal lifecycle performance across hot, humid, and coastal environments.

Key Installation Principles

  • Structural Verification: Always confirm alignment, plumbness, and deflection tolerances of steel purlins/girts prior to panel installation.
  • Cold-Cutting Equipment: Use nibblers, circular saws with carbide blades, or shears. Never use abrasive angle grinders.
  • Sealing Integrity: Ensure continuous vapor barrier sealant application at side laps and end joints.
  • Protective Film: Remove protective film from internal facings before installation and external film immediately after fixing.
Phase 1: Logistics & Storage

Handling, Transport & Site Storage

Comprehensive procedures for receiving, offloading, and maintaining panel bundles prior to structural mounting.

Packaging & Factory Loading

  • Panels are bundled at the Barka factory in protective polythene wrapping, with bundle sizes determined by panel thickness, weight, and transport constraints.
  • Custom packing configurations are arranged upon request for specific crane reach or roof sequence deliveries.
  • Transport flatbeds must feature clean, flat timber decks free of sharp bolts, nails, or metal protrusions.
  • Bundle tie-downs require wide synthetic straps with edge guards to prevent indentation on panel profiles.

Crane & Forklift Offloading

  • Offload panels using forklifts equipped with wide tines (minimum 15–20 cm width) padded with rubber protective sleeves.
  • For crane offloading, always utilize wide synthetic web slings suspended from a spreader beam to distribute weight evenly.
  • Steel wire ropes or chains must never contact panel edges directly to prevent surface coating sheer or profile crushing.
  • When lifting long panel bundles (exceeding 8 meters), maintain multiple support points to avoid flexural buckling.

Weather-Tight Site Storage

  • Store panel bundles on firm, elevated ground using timber bearers placed at maximum 1.5-meter intervals.
  • Arrange stacked bundles with a slight slope (minimum 5° angle) to facilitate immediate rain and condensation drainage.
  • Provide breathable, waterproof canvas tarpaulins for outdoor storage while ensuring adequate air circulation between bundles.
  • Never store panels directly on soil, in standing water, or near active chemical storage areas.

Protective Film Removal Window

  • Panels are supplied with protective PE film to guard against abrasion during manufacturing and transport.
  • Remove internal facing protective film prior to fixing panels onto structural purlins or wall girts.
  • External PE film must be removed immediately after fixing each panel, or within a maximum of 30 days post-delivery.
  • Prolonged exposure to direct UV radiation causes film vulcanization, making film removal difficult and risking paint lift.
Phase 2: Structural Assembly

Precision Installation Protocols

Step-by-step structural preparation, cold-cutting practices, and fixing standards for wall and roof panel envelope systems.

Substructure Inspection & Tolerances

Prior to panel placement, civil and structural alignment must be verified against project execution drawings. Inspect secondary cold-formed Z & C purlins and girts for levelness, alignment, and plumb. Deviations exceeding structural limits must be corrected to avoid panel joint distortion, aesthetic wave patterns, or localized stress concentrations on fixing screws.

Mandatory Tooling & Cold Cutting Rules

Strictly cut panels using specialized cold-cutting tools such as electric nibblers, reciprocator shears, or circular saws equipped with fine-carbide blades. Angle grinders are strictly prohibited: high-temperature sparks destroy protective zinc/paint coatings, create instant rust nucleation points, and present core combustion hazards.

Wall Panel Fitting Procedure

  • Distinguish between internal and external panel faces (indicated on factory labels); external facings feature superior smoothness and core adhesion.
  • Assemble wall panels in the sequence delivered within bundles to maintain strict color and shade uniformity.
  • Press tongue-and-groove side joints tightly together to achieve specified thermal bridge breaks and vapor barrier continuous contact.
  • Drive self-drilling stainless steel or galvanized fasteners with torque-limiting clutch tools to avoid over-tightening or dimpling metal skins.
  • Inspect installed elevation from approximately 25 meters distance under natural lighting to confirm shade consistency across panels.

Roof Panel Laying Procedure

  • Orient roof panel lap joints away from prevailing wind and storm directions to minimize wind-driven water ingress risks.
  • Align the initial roof panel precisely perpendicular to the eave line; verify squareness to avoid cumulative joint offsets down the building length.
  • Fasten roof panels through profile crests using approved heavy-duty fasteners equipped with bonded EPDM weather-sealing washers.
  • Calibrate fastener torque so EPDM washers compress evenly without crushing profile ribs or stripping threads in structural purlins.
  • Apply continuous butyl sealant ribbons along overlap seams, ridge capping, eaves, and gutter flashing junctions.
